If you want lower fees and payouts before your event — for parties and club nights as well as meetups, dinners, and community events — choose Luma. If you book live music and want your shows in front of DICE’s fan audience, with anti-touting tickets and a face-value waiting list, DICE is built for that.

## Pricing

**Luma**: Free events are free. For paid tickets, [Luma Plus](/p/luma-plus) has a **0% platform fee** — you pay only Stripe processing (2.9% + 30¢), so a $20 ticket costs **$0.88** in fees. On the Free plan, paid tickets incur a 5% platform fee plus processing ($1.88 on a $20 ticket).

**DICE**: Free tickets are also free. In the US, DICE charges a **13% service fee** on top of the face value, including card processing. On a $20 ticket that’s **$2.60**, so fans see a price of $22.60. Door and box office sales carry separate fees, rates differ by country (for example, 8.5% plus VAT in the UK, with card processing charged separately), and larger venues and promoters can negotiate their own deals.

**Who really pays the fee?** DICE describes its fee as paid by the buyer, but ticket sellers in the US (under the FTC’s rule on ticket fees), the UK, the EU, and Australia have to show guests the full price upfront, fees included. Guests decide whether to buy based on that all-in price, so on every platform the fee comes out of the same total — what matters is how much of it you keep. On a $22.60 all-in ticket, you keep **$20.00** on DICE, **$21.64** on Luma Plus, or **$20.51** on Luma’s Free plan.

**Cash Flow**: With Luma, funds are paid out to your Stripe account as guests purchase tickets, following Stripe’s standard rolling payout schedule (typically 2 days in the US) — or within minutes with Stripe’s Instant Payouts, for eligible accounts. You can use ticket revenue for venue deposits, artist fees, and production well before the night. DICE pays promoters after the event, within five business days.

## How They Compare

DICE is built for live music: gigs, club nights, and festivals. Its strength is the fan app — fans sync their Spotify or Apple Music libraries, follow artists and venues, and get personalized recommendations, and DICE says a large share of its ticket sales come from that discovery. Tickets live in the app and can’t be resold elsewhere; fans who can’t go return them through a face-value waiting list, which keeps touts out and tells promoters how much unmet demand a show has. Pricing is shown all-in, with no surprise fees at checkout.

Luma is built for every kind of event — meetups, conferences, dinners, workshops, virtual events, and parties and club nights too, anywhere in the world. Hosts get calendars with subscribers, [recurring events](/p/multi-session-recurring-events), [memberships](/p/calendar-memberships), and multi-channel communication: email blasts, [SMS and WhatsApp](/p/sms-whatsapp-messages), and [event chat](/p/event-chat). Your guest list is yours — [export it as a CSV](/p/download-guest-csv) anytime — and your event page is yours to share however you like. Luma also shows guests the full price upfront, with no fees added at checkout.

Both platforms cover the ticketing basics — ticket tiers, capacity limits, [waitlists](/p/waitlist) for sold-out events, and QR [check-in](/p/check-in) at the door.

For ticketed events, the biggest differences are cost and cash flow: DICE’s 13% US fee is higher than Luma’s, and on Luma the money reaches you before the event instead of after it.

## Where Luma Shines

1. **Lower fees**: 0% platform fee with Luma Plus and 5% on the Free plan, versus DICE’s 13% in the US.
2. **Paid before the event**: Stripe payouts arrive on a rolling schedule as tickets sell, not after the show.
3. **Curate a paid guest list**: [Require approval](/p/payment-require-approval) works with paid tickets — guests’ cards are held when they apply and only charged if you approve them. Paid [waitlists](/p/waitlist) work the same way, so you can fill sold-out spots without chasing payments.
4. **Paid memberships**: Sell monthly, yearly, or one-time [memberships](/p/calendar-memberships) that give members access to your events — recurring revenue, with Luma handling the billing.
5. **Every kind of event, open to every host**: Run club nights alongside meetups, dinners, workshops, and virtual events, with calendars, [newsletters](/p/sending-newsletters), and event chat between them. No partnership agreement needed to start selling.

## Why You Might Choose DICE

- **Music fan discovery** – DICE’s app recommends shows based on what fans listen to and who they follow, which can put your event in front of people who don’t know you yet.
- **Anti-touting tickets** – Non-transferable tickets and a face-value waiting list keep resale prices in check for high-demand shows.
- **Music industry ecosystem** – Strong relationships with artists, agents, and venues, with tools built around touring and live music.

## FAQs

**Does Luma have a waiting list for sold-out events?** Yes — the [waitlist](/p/waitlist) works for free and paid tickets. For paid tickets, guests authorize payment when they join and are only charged if you approve them.

**Can I keep the address private?** Yes — you can [restrict the location to approved guests](/p/hiding-your-event-location), so everyone else sees only the city and approximate area. Approved guests see the full address right away. To share it closer to the night, leave it off the event and [schedule a blast](/p/sending-or-scheduling-event-blasts) with the address instead.

**Will guests need to create a Luma account?** Only if they want to join event chat; they can RSVP with just an email.
