Update to Reminders on Luma
Posted on September 17, 2024
When you host an event on Luma, we want to make to make the logistics as easy as possible. That allows you to focus on what you do best — hosting a delightful event.
As part of that, we send registered guests reminders for each event. Reminders go out via email, SMS, and push notifications, and include a link to their ticket and, for online events, information to join the virtual event. Guests who are still pending approval or on the waitlist do not receive automated reminders.
Previously we would let you edit reminders and add custom information to these events. And we would also let you send out custom event posts. This was confusing because you had two slightly different ways of doing the same thing. Additionally, guests who are registered for many events may turn off reminders or receive a ton of reminders every day.
Going forwards, if you’d like to include custom information sent to guests you can send (or schedule) an Event Blast from the Blasts tab. Event Blasts are shown on the event page so that even if a guest has turned off reminder notifications, they will be able to find your message on the event page.
We still send automated reminders, but you can’t edit them. Reminders go out 1 day and 1 hour before the event. If you create the event less than a day before it starts, the 1-day reminder is skipped. Hosts get a copy of each reminder too.
Guests receive reminders on the channels they’ve turned on in their notification settings. If a guest has turned off reminders, you can’t turn them back on for your event.
Turning Off Reminders for an Event
You can turn off automatic reminders for a single event on the web:
- Go to your event’s manage page and open the Blasts tab.
- Under System Messages, find Event Reminders and click Manage.
- Turn off Send Automatic Reminders.
This stops the reminders for that event only — for guests and hosts alike. To send your own reminder with custom wording or timing, send or schedule a Blast instead.
