Sending or Scheduling Event Blasts
Blasts are a great way to share more information about your event, such as announcing a special guest, an event update, or a logistical change.
You can send a blast from your event > Manage Event > Blasts tab.
Blasts will be sent via email, SMS, and push notifications. Guests will receive an SMS if they have linked their phone number or a push notification if they have the Luma app. Blasts will also be displayed on the event page for logged-in guests.
By default, Blasts are sent to all guests with the “Going” status. On web, the inline composer is limited to 140 characters — great for quick updates and reminders. If you need to send a longer message, customize the recipients, or schedule the Blast, click Advanced.
The Advanced view is only available on the web. From there, you can write much longer messages with no character limit using our Rich Text Editor — including headings, images, buttons, attachments, and event embeds. You can also add a subject line, choose recipients by guest status or ticket type, and schedule when the Blast should be sent.
On iOS and Android, Blasts are sent as plain text to all guests with the “Going” status. To use the Advanced view, switch to the web.
Note: You cannot filter event blasts by check-in status. Blasts can only be filtered by guest registration status (Going, Pending, Waitlist, Invited) and ticket types. You cannot send blasts to guests who are marked as Not Going. If you need to reach those guests, you can download a CSV of your guest list filtered by that status and email them directly.
Sender Name and Avatar
The blast email sender address and name are determined by the calendar that manages the event (see Email Delivery + Open Troubleshooting for details). However, the blast content itself — both in the email body and on the event page — will also show the name and profile photo of the person who sent the blast.
SMS / Push Notifications
We will automatically send SMS and push notifications to guests once they have verified their phone number and/or downloaded the iOS or Android app.
Guests can control how they receive blasts (email/SMS/push) via their notification preferences. As a host, you are not able to specify a blast to be sent on a specific channel as that’s a setting guests control.
