Luma vs Ticket Tailor
If you want to build a community around your events — calendars with subscribers, email and SMS, and event chat — choose Luma. If you run a venue or box office and need reserved seating, timed entry, or a low flat fee per ticket, Ticket Tailor is built for that.
Pricing
Luma: Free events are free. For paid tickets, Luma Plus has a 0% platform fee — you pay only Stripe processing (2.9% + 30¢), so a $20 ticket costs $0.88 in fees. On the Free plan, paid tickets incur a 5% platform fee plus processing ($1.88 on a $20 ticket).
Ticket Tailor: Free tickets are free (up to 5,000 per year). Paid tickets carry a flat fee of $0.85 per ticket pay-as-you-go, or from $0.30 per ticket if you prepay for credits in bulk (minimum 100 credits). Ticket Tailor doesn’t process payments itself — you connect your own Stripe, PayPal, or Square account, and their processing fees are added on top. On a $20 ticket that’s $1.73 pay-as-you-go ($0.85 + $0.88 Stripe processing), or as low as $1.18 with prepaid credits.
Which is cheaper? Ticket Tailor’s fee is flat, so it wins against Luma’s Free plan on any ticket above about $17, and the gap grows with the ticket price. On Luma Plus there’s no per-ticket fee at all — you pay the subscription and Stripe processing. At $59/month, Luma Plus costs less than Ticket Tailor’s pay-as-you-go fee once you sell about 70 paid tickets a month.
Cash Flow: With Luma, funds are paid out to your Stripe account as guests purchase tickets, following Stripe’s standard rolling payout schedule (typically 2 days in the US) — or within minutes with Stripe’s Instant Payouts, for eligible accounts. Ticket Tailor works the same way — money goes straight to your own payment processor, so you get paid before the event on both platforms.

How They Compare
Ticket Tailor is built for selling tickets from your own box office: theaters, venues, attractions, festivals, and anyone who wants a white-label checkout embedded on their own website. It has reserved seating charts (each reserved seat uses an extra credit), timed-entry slots, season passes, merchandise add-ons, tap-to-pay for walk-up sales in its check-in app, and integrations with Mailchimp, HubSpot, and Zapier. It lets you add your own booking fee on top of the ticket price if you want buyers to cover the costs.
Luma is built for hosts who want an audience, not just a checkout. Every event lives on a calendar that guests can subscribe to, so your next event reaches past attendees automatically. You can reach your community with email blasts, newsletters, SMS, and event chat, and grow it through discovery on Luma. Event pages come with ready-made themes, and guests can register with just an email — no account needed — on the web or in the Luma app.
Both platforms cover the ticketing basics — multiple ticket types, promo codes, waitlists, embeds, QR check-in, guest list export, and memberships.
Where Luma Shines
- 0% platform fee with Luma Plus: No per-ticket fee on top of Stripe processing, no matter how many tickets you sell or what they cost.
- Community tools: Calendars with subscribers, newsletters, SMS, and event chat keep your audience coming back between events.
- Curate a paid guest list: Require approval works with paid tickets — guests’ cards are held when they apply and only charged if you approve them. Paid waitlists work the same way, so you can fill sold-out spots without chasing payments.
- Discovery: Luma’s discover pages and app help new people find your events. Ticket Tailor is mostly a checkout for traffic you bring yourself.
Why You Might Choose Ticket Tailor
- Low flat fees on expensive tickets – A flat fee per ticket (as little as $0.30 with prepaid credits) costs less than a percentage fee if you sell high-priced tickets and don’t want a subscription.
- Reserved seating – Build seating charts for your venue so buyers can pick their seats. Luma doesn’t offer seat maps.
- Box office tools – Timed-entry slots, season passes, tap-to-pay at the door, and a white-label checkout on your own domain.
- Choice of payment processor – Use Stripe, PayPal, or Square.

FAQs
Can I pass fees on to buyers like on Ticket Tailor? Luma shows guests one all-in price, with nothing added at checkout. Ticket sellers in the US, UK, EU, and Australia have to show the full price upfront anyway, so a separate booking fee still comes out of the total guests decide to pay. If you want to keep a set amount, raise your ticket price slightly — see Creating a Paid Event.
Does Luma support reserved seating? No. If you need seat maps, Ticket Tailor may be the better fit.
Will guests need to create a Luma account? Only if they want to join event chat; they can RSVP with just an email.
